Division K Club Officer Training 2

The Division K Club Officer Training 2 by Toastmaster Leadership Institute was held in ULPL Lecture Hall, Politeknik Sultanah Bahiyah, Kulim - on 11th December 2010. Like the last term's club officer training, this time it had smaller crowd, and thus it was easier to focus on specific group.

The session was started punctually by the MC, Mr Rajagopal, followed by the welcome addresses of the Organizing Chairperson, Ms Khadijah, Division K Governor, Mdm Sabrina as well the District 51 Lt. Governor of Education and Training (LGET), DTM Sue Chan.

The Ice Breaker session was conducted by the TLI Team, where we had this something like mini Treasure Hunt. We had to find 6 items within the lecture hall (basically we need to ask around) :

1- Toastmaster membership pin
2- Club Officers manual
3- One of the Council Member's name tag
4- One of the Council Member's name card
5- One of the prepared certificate of the organizing committee
6- One SAA.

Next was the 30 mins core session: Breaking the vicious Cycle, where we were reminded of the Club mission....

The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

....and many other interesting points.

We had a group photograph session followed by tea break. Nice refreshments arranged by PTSB Toastmasters Club :)

Toastmaster Leadership Institute - Division K District 51 Club Officers Training

Without wasting much time, the session was resumed with the Interactive session, specifically the "Moments of Truth". We were assigned to different rooms for each Area K1, K2 and K3. Each area was conducted by their respective Area Governor, and Area K3? None other than Mike Foong. Each club officers was given the "Moments of Truth" worksheet, which we have to go through, discuss and honestly check with our respective club, the list of:

1- First Impression
2- Membership Orientation
3- Fellowship, Variety and Communication
4- Program Planning and Meeting Organization
5- Membership Strength
6- Achievement Recognition

At 4.10pm, we had the STRETCHING activity, where we have to dance the Wonder Girls' routine of "Nobody". Clearly I've missed it since I had a "nature call".

The 3 interesting electives were conducted concurrently and I attended the "Evaluate to Uplift" session. 

The other 2 electives were, "School of Rock" and "Step Up".

Evaluate to Uplift session by Ms Eu Choi San

"Evaluate to Uplift" slot was very interestingly conducted by Ms Eu Choi San. She stressed that evaluation is giving a constructive feedback, and it is an art itself. There are 4 essential skills of evaluation: Listening skill, Observation skill, Analytical skill and Delivery skill. Without the delivery skill, the evaluation process is useless if we couldn't deliver it well to the respective speaker.

R.E.D is the 3 golden rules of evaluation:

R- Respect to speaker - self-worth & self-esteem.
E- Evaluate, not summarise - do not summarise what the speaker had said.
D- Discuss with the speaker - before and after the speech.

R.O.S.E is the 4 platinum rules of evaluation:
R- Read Read Read - speech objectives, evaluation guide and previous feedback.
O- Own format
S- Specific - be specific on speech elements, e.g. vocal variety
E- Eliminate Inconsistencies

Next short sessions were AG's / Div Council sharing on findings, Q&A, summation & closing address including the Sungai Petani Toastmaster Club sharing on how they've greatly increased their members by having an evening dinner function, and invited many guests.

The whole sessions were ended on time ^_^

STMC has less than 4 club officers attending the TLI training. Minimum is 4 club officers attendance in order to get the 0.5 point of DCP (Distinguished Club Program) goals.

Guess a few of the club officers have to attend the next TLI2 session in January 2011. I tell you, it's very interesting :) at least for me...
